Training Center for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief of the Republic of Slovenia was established in 1992 at the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief of the Republic of Slovenia, for the sole purpose of educating and training citizens in the field of protection against natural and other disasters. The Training Center headquarter is located in Ig and has units in Logatec, Pekre and Sežana. There are various departments, which were organized within this Training Center.
The first one is the Education and Training Department. This department notes the needs for education and training, in the field of protection against natural and other disasters. Not only does it plan the education and training, makes the learning programmes and plans, but it also carries out their evaluation. It participates in preparing policies with the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for education and training, in the field of protection against natural and other disasters. It gives the authorization to educational organizations for executing the needed training in the above mentioned field. The Education and Training Department also participates in the research activities of the Administration and organizes international training. The second one is the Firefighting Department, which prepares and implements training and programmes for the future professional firefighters, carries out difficult training for volunteer firefighters, which are provided with the conditions and the cooperation with the Firefighting Association of Slovenia. It is responsible also for the preparation and implementation of training for the members of firefighting units of wider importance, who are, via the Government’s decision, set out to perform tasks in the fields of protection and rescue of transport, industrial and other accidents that have dangerous substances present, the accident on longer motorways and railway tunnels, and technical rescues in the event of traffic and accidents on running and still waters. This department participates in the EFSCA and other international activities. The third one is the Department of Support, which provides logistics and is responsible for the accommodation and food for participants. It provides materials and technical conditions fort the execution of all activities. It is also responsible for ongoing maintenance of facilities and equipment, and the purchase of assets, equipment and food products. The last department is Firefighting College, which is currently under the process of establishment. It will implement post-secondary study programme for firefighters, in accordance with the socio-verified study programme. The duration of its study programme will be two years and it will give the possibility to get the higher educational education and with it the title of a firefighting engineer. The ultimate objective of this programme is to educate engineers with a wide technically and practically useful knowledge in the field of firefighting.
